Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1/2 cup beef broth

2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Shape Patties: Form the mixture into 4-6 hamburger steaks, each about 1 inch thick.

Brown the Steaks: In a large skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Brown the hamburger steaks on both sides for about 3-4 minutes each, then transfer them to a baking dish.

Sauté Mushrooms: In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5-7 minutes until soft and fragrant.

Make the Sauce: In a bowl, mix together cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and dried thyme. Add the sautéed mushrooms to this mixture and stir well.

Combine Everything: Pour the mushroom sauce over the browned hamburger steaks in the baking dish, then sprinkle frozen mixed vegetables around the sides.

Add Cheese: Top the dish with shredded cheddar cheese, allowing it to melt and create a lovely crust.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil in the last 5 minutes to let the cheese brown slightly.

Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with your choice of mashed potatoes or crusty bread!
