For the Bread:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup applesauce

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 cup peeled and diced apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

For the Cheesecake Swirl:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Apple Crisp Topping:

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.

    Prepare the Bread Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

      Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

        Mix Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the diced apples gently.

          Make the Cheesecake Swirl: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

            Assemble the Bread: Pour half of the bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spread half of the cheesecake mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining bread batter on top and dollop the remaining cheesecake mixture. Use a knife to gently swirl the cheesecake into the bread batter.

              Prepare the Apple Crisp Topping: In a small bowl, combine rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, melted butter, and cinnamon. If using, add the chopped walnuts or pecans. Mix until crumbly.

                Add Topping: Sprinkle the apple crisp topping evenly over the bread batter.

                  Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top browns too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil.

                    Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
