  • 500 g boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • to taste salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • to taste fresh cilantro
  • as needed cooked basmati rice or naan

Instructions

  • Marinate the chicken with yogurt, lemon juice, spices, and salt; refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Heat butter in a skillet, cook marinated chicken until browned and cooked through, then set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté onion until translucent, then add garlic and ginger, cooking until fragrant.
  • Add crushed tomatoes to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Return chicken to the skillet, stir in heavy cream and sugar, and simmer until sauce thickens.
  • Adjust salt to taste, garnish with cilantro, and serve hot with rice or naan.
