Ingredients

2 lbs beef sirloin, thinly sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 tablespoon ground paprika

1 tablespoon ground coriander

1 tablespoon ground turmeric

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon allspice

1 tablespoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

½ cup plain yogurt

¼ cup olive oil

2 tablespoons lemon juice

Pita bread or flatbreads, for serving

Fresh veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, pickles)

Tahini sauce or garlic sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a large bowl, combine minced garlic, cumin, paprika, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, allspice, salt, black pepper, yogurt, olive oil, and lemon juice. Mix well to form a marinade. Add the thinly sliced beef, ensuring every piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Cook the Beef: Preheat your grill, stovetop grill pan, or oven broiler on high. If grilling, skewer the beef slices onto metal skewers and grill for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and cooked through. If using a pan, cook for 6-8 minutes over medium-high heat, stirring often. For the oven, spread the beef on a baking sheet and broil for 8-10 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

Slice the Beef: Once cooked, let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.

Assemble the Shawarma: Lay out the pita or flatbread. Add the sliced beef, followed by an assortment of fresh veggies such as diced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and pickles. Drizzle with tahini sauce or garlic sauce to taste.

Serve: Roll up the pita or flatbread tightly, and enjoy your homemade beef shawarma! You can also serve it with extra sauce on the side.
