Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed)

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

Powdered sugar, for serving

Extra blueberries, for garnish (optional)

Butter, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

Prep the Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.

Layer the Bread: Place half of the cubed bread in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread dollops of softened cream cheese evenly over the bread. Sprinkle half of the blueberries over the cream cheese. Layer the remaining bread cubes on top, followed by the remaining blueberries.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.

Combine: Pour the custard mixture over the layered bread and blueberries, ensuring that all the bread is soaked. Press down gently with a spatula to make sure the bread absorbs the liquid.

Chill: Cover the casserole with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for a deeper flavor and firmer texture.

Bake: Once ready, remove the casserole from the fridge and uncover. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.

Cool and Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for about 10 minutes. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar and garnished with extra blueberries, if desired.
