Ingredients

1 large loaf of brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup maple syrup (for drizzling)

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Place the brioche cubes into the dish evenly.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine and Soak: Pour the egg mixture over the brioche cubes, ensuring all the bread is soaked. You can gently shake the dish or press down on the bread to help soak up the liquid. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Bake the Casserole: If refrigerated overnight, remove it from the fridge and let it sit for about 30 minutes to bring it to room temperature. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and puffed, and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Add Toppings: If desired, sprinkle the chopped pecans on top halfway through baking for added crunch. Once baked, drizzle the casserole with maple syrup while it's still warm.

Serve: Dust with powdered sugar just before serving. Cut into squares and serve warm with additional maple syrup on the side.
