Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup buttermilk

2 large eggs, at room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Filling:

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

4 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1-2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

      - In another bowl, mix the melted butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully blended.

        - Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.

          Knead the Dough:

            - Lightly flour your work surface and turn the dough out onto it. Knead gently for about 2-3 minutes until the dough is smooth.

              - Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rest in a warm area for about 30 minutes.

                Make the Filling:

                  - In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. In another bowl, ensure the butter is softened and creamy.

                    Roll Out the Dough:

                      - After resting, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle, approximately 18 x 12 inches.

                        - Spread the softened butter evenly across the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-brown sugar mixture over the butter.

                          Shape the Rolls:

                            - Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Pinch the seam to seal and cut the log into 12 equal slices.

                              Arrange in Baking Dish:

                                - Place the rolls cut side up in a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish, allowing them to touch slightly. Cover with a towel and let rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.

                                  Bake the Rolls:

                                    - Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the risen rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

                                      Prepare the Frosting:

                                        - In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until creamy. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, adding milk as needed until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

                                          Frost and Serve:

                                            - Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly for about 10 minutes before generously spreading the cream cheese frosting on top.

                                              Enjoy!

                                                - Serve warm and enjoy the delightful gooeyness of your homemade buttermilk cinnamon rolls!
