Ingredients
  

  • 4 large russet potatoes thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter for greasing the baking dish
  • Fresh parsley finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with unsalted butter.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg until smooth.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish, slightly overlapping.
  • Pour half of the creamy mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle half of the cheddar and Gruyère cheeses on top.
  • Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
  • Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender and the top is golden.
  • Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with finely chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For an elegant touch, serve in individual ramekins topped with extra cheese and parsley.
