2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) – optional

Sea salt flakes (for sprinkling)

Instructions
 

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

    Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

      Cream the butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

        Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

          Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

            Fold in chocolate chips and nuts: Use a spatula or wooden spoon to fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.

              Scoop the cookies: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop heaping portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.

                Add a sprinkle of salt: Just before baking, sprinkle a few flakes of sea salt on top of each cookie dough ball.

                  Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft.

                    Cool and enjoy: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
