4 small sweet onions

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice level)

Salt and black pepper to taste

Olive oil spray

Prepare the Onions: Trim the tops off the mini onions and peel them carefully. Soak the onions in a bowl of buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to help them tenderize and absorb flavor.

    Make the Coating: In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.

      Coat the Onions: Remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each onion in the flour mixture, making sure to coat evenly. Shake off any excess flour, then dip the onions back into the buttermilk. Finally, coat them with the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere.

        Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

          Air Fry the Onions: Lightly spray the prepared blooming onions with olive oil spray on all sides. Place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches) and air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

            Serve: Once done, remove the crispy mini blooming onions from the air fryer. Let them cool slightly before serving. These are delicious on their own or served with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as ranch or spicy mayo.
