Go Back
The history of chocolate cookies dates back to the early 1900s, with chocolate chip cookies making their debut in 1938 thanks to Ruth Wakefield, who famously added chocolate chunks to her butter drop cookie recipe. Since then, chocolate cookies have evolved into countless variations, each reflecting the cultural and culinary preferences of different regions. In America, the classic chocolate chip cookie reigns supreme, while in Europe, variations like the French cookie "Sablé" or the Italian "Biscotti" showcase diverse interpretations of this timeless treat.

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup milk chocolate chips (optional)

1 cup powdered sugar (for decoration)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This will take about 2-3 minutes using a hand mixer.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips (if using) with a spatula.

Scoop the Dough: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, making sure to leave some space between each cookie to allow for spreading.

Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are slightly soft. Don't overbake to maintain that chewy texture.

Cool and Add Toppings: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar for an elegant finish.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your delectable Crumbl Chocolate Cake Cookies with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!
