Ingredients

For the Burger:

1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 slices of Gruyère cheese

4 brioche burger buns

For the French Onion Topping:

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

4 tbsp unsalted butter

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp sugar

1 cup beef broth

2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

Fresh thyme sprigs (optional, for garnish)

For the Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp Dijon mustard

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Prepare the French Onion Topping:

    - In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter with olive oil. Add the sliced onions and sprinkle with sugar.

      - Cook the onions, stirring frequently, until they are caramelized and golden brown (about 20-25 minutes).

        - Add the beef broth and balsamic vinegar, simmering until the mixture thickens slightly; about 5 minutes. Set aside.

          Make the Burger Patties:

            - In a bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into four equal patties.

              - Preheat a grill or skillet over high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, placing a slice of Gruyère cheese on top of each patty in the last minute of cooking to melt.

                Prepare the Sauce:

                  - In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.

                    Assemble the Deconstructed Burger:

                      - Cut the brioche buns into halves and toast them lightly on the grill or in the toaster.

                        - Arrange the bottom half of each bun on a plate. Scoop a generous amount of the caramelized onion mixture onto each bottom bun.

                          - Place a cheese-topped patty over the onions, then drizzle with the sauce.

                            - Top with the other half of the bun, or serve deconstructed by arranging all components beautifully on a platter.

                              Garnish and Serve:

                                - If desired, garnish with fresh thyme sprigs. Serve with fries or a side salad for a complete meal.
