Ingredients

For the Chicken Cordon Bleu:

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

8 slices of Swiss cheese

8 slices of ham (thinly sliced)

1 cup flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons butter

For the Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce:

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to about 1/2-inch thickness using a meat mallet.

Assemble the Cordon Bleu: Lay two slices of ham and two slices of Swiss cheese over each chicken breast. Carefully roll the chicken up tightly, securing with toothpicks if necessary.

Breading Station: Set up a breading station by placing the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in separate shallow dishes. Season the flour with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

Bread the Chicken: Dredge each chicken roll in the seasoned flour, dip into the egg, and then coat in breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere.

Sear the Chicken: In a large oven-safe skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken rolls and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from heat.

Bake the Chicken: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F/74°C).

Prepare the Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute until bubbly. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to thicken.

Add Cheese and Seasoning: Stir in the shredded Swiss cheese and Dijon mustard. Cook until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve: Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Remove toothpicks if used. Serve the chicken rolls topped with the creamy Swiss cheese sauce and garnish with fresh parsley.
