  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon pure almond extract
  • colored sugar or festive sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  • Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl and whisk together.
  • Cream softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter-sugar mixture and beat until incorporated.
  • Gradually mix in the flour mixture on low speed until a soft dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into two portions, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place on prepared baking sheets.
  • Sprinkle colored sugar or sprinkles on top of each cookie before baking.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden, then cool on sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
