Tracing the roots of fry sauce takes us on a journey through American culinary history. While the exact origin of fry sauce is somewhat murky, it is widely believed to have emerged in the mid-20th century in the United States. One of the earliest recorded instances of fry sauce dates back to 1948 in Utah, where a local drive-in began serving it as a dip for fries. This creamy condiment quickly gained popularity, particularly in the Western states, and became a beloved accompaniment in many fast-food establishments.

1/4 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise and ketchup. Mix well until fully blended.

Add the apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Stir until all ingredients are incorporated.

Taste the sauce and season with salt and pepper according to your preference.

For a smoother texture, you can use a whisk or a hand mixer to blend the ingredients until creamy.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Serve chilled as a delicious dip for fries, onion rings, or as a spread for burgers and sandwiches.
