Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

¾ cup warm water (about 110°F)

2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for brushing)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well to combine.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, then pour in the warm water and olive oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and knead for another minute.

Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope, about 12 inches long.

To shape the heart, take the two ends of the rope and twist them together to form a loop at the top (the heart's top). Then, bring the ends together at the bottom to create the point of the heart. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Repeat this process with all dough portions, ensuring they are spaced out on the baking sheet.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Brush the shaped breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, Italian herbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and coarse sea salt.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Once done, remove from the oven and let cool slightly, then serve warm with marinara sauce or your choice of dip.
