Ingredients
  

  • 9 sheets lasagna sheets
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and pork over medium heat, breaking it apart until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is soft and translucent.
  • Incorporate crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Cook the lasagna sheets according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat.
  • In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom and place 3 lasagna sheets over it.
  • Spread half of the ricotta cheese over the noodles, followed by meat sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  • Repeat layering with remaining ingredients, finishing with noodles, meat sauce, and mozzarella on top.
  • Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top and cover with aluminum foil.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, remove foil, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is golden brown.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and garnish with fresh basil if desired.
