Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1/2 tsp salt

For the Filling:

2 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1-2 tbsp milk (to adjust consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, and salt. Combine the wet ingredients with the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Make the Filling: While the dough is rising, peel and dice the apples. In a bowl, combine the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter. If using, fold in the chopped pecans for added crunch.

Assemble the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 15x20 inches). Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough. Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Cut the log into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let them rise again in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes, until they puff up.

Bake the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and cooked through.

Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until well combined. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired frosting consistency.

Frost the Rolls: Once the rolls are out of the oven, allow them to cool for about 10 minutes. Generously spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the rolls warm and enjoy the irresistible blend of flavors!
