Ingredients

1 unbaked pie crust (9-inch)

4 large eggs

1 cup granulated sugar

2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (plus extra for topping)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Pie Crust: Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan. Trim any excess dough and prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling. Pre-bake the crust for about 10 minutes, then remove it from the oven and set aside to cool.

Mix the Custard Filling: In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until well beaten. Gradually add the sugar, mixing until dissolved.

Add Milk and Flavorings: Stir in the whole milk, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until fully combined and smooth.

Melt the Butter: Stir the melted butter into the custard mixture. This adds richness to the filling.

Pour the Mixture: Pour the custard filling into the pre-baked pie crust gently, taking care not to overflow.

Bake the Pie: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.

Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Before serving, sprinkle a touch of ground nutmeg on top for garnish.
