Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

8 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

¾ cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup maple syrup (for drizzling)

Powdered sugar (for serving)

Fresh berries (optional, for garnish)

Butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.

Layer the Bread: Place the cubed bread evenly in the prepared dish, ensuring no gaps remain.

Mix the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread is soaked.

Cover and Refrigerate: Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours) to allow the bread to absorb the custard.

Preheat Oven: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap, and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

Serve: Drizzle the casserole with maple syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Garnish with fresh berries if desired.

Enjoy: Serve warm and enjoy the delicious flavors of this overnight treat!
