Ingredients

For the Dough:

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

For the Pizza Sauce:

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

½ teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Toppings:

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup pepperoni slices (or any toppings of your choice)

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Olive oil (for drizzling)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

      - In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.

        - Mix until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

          - Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

            Make the Pizza Sauce:

              - In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

                - Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside.

                  Preheat the Oven:

                    - Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or an inverted baking sheet inside to heat up.

                      Shape the Dough:

                        - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide it into two portions for two pizzas or keep it whole for one large pizza.

                          - Roll out the dough to your desired thickness (thin crust or thick crust) and shape it into a circle. Use your hands to stretch it if preferred.

                            Assemble the Pizza:

                              - Remove the heated pizza stone or baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle it with a bit of flour or cornmeal to prevent sticking.

                                - Transfer the rolled-out dough onto the stone or sheet. Spread an even layer of the prepared pizza sauce over the base.

                                  - Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously and top with pepperoni or your favorite toppings.

                                    Bake the Pizza:

                                      - Carefully place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

                                        Serve:

                                          - Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a couple of minutes, then garnish with fresh basil and drizzle with a little olive oil. Cut into slices and enjoy!
