Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a healthier option)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for serving)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Burger buns (4)

Pepperoni slices (about 20 slices)

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Olive oil, for brushing

Optional: red pepper flakes for a spicy kick

Instructions

Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended. Shape the mixture into four equally sized burger patties.

Cook the Patties: Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

Add Marinara and Cheese: During the last minute of cooking, spoon about 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce on each patty and top with a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

Toast the Buns: While the cheese is melting, brush the inside of the burger buns lightly with olive oil and toast them on the grill or in a toaster oven until golden brown.

Assemble the Burger: Place a cheese-covered patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with several slices of pepperoni, a little more marinara sauce if desired, and fresh basil leaves. Place the top half of the bun to finish the burger.

Serve: Serve immediately with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping and sprinkle some red pepper flakes for added heat if you like.
