Ingredients

1 cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)

3 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)

3 large eggs (separated)

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup mascarpone cheese (room temperature)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup heavy whipping cream

24 ladyfinger cookies

Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)

Dark chocolate shavings (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Coffee Mixture: In a shallow dish, combine the cooled brewed coffee and coffee liqueur. Set aside.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar together with an electric mixer until the mixture is light and creamy. This should take about 5 minutes.

Add Mascarpone: Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.

Whip the Cream: In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, ensuring not to deflate the cream.

Combine Egg Whites: In another clean bowl, beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Gently fold this into the mascarpone cream mixture until everything is evenly incorporated.

Layer the Tiramisu: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture (do not soak) and layer them at the bottom of a 9x9 inch baking dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

Repeat Layers: Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture. Smooth the top with a spatula.

Chill: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.

Serve: Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
