  • 1 pound fresh green beans trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup French fried onions plus extra for topping
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for a little heat
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil.
  • Bring salted water to a boil in a large pot, add green beans, and blanch for about 5 minutes.
  • Drain the beans and transfer them to ice water to stop cooking, then drain again.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  • Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  • Fold in shredded cheddar cheese and blanched green beans until evenly coated.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle French fried onions on top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbling and onions are golden brown.
